Courtroom Conduct
The following information appears in "Section X" of the Rules of Court.
1.An orderly, quiet and dignified atmosphere reflecting the importance and seriousness of an inquiry to ascertain true justice must always be maintained. All persons must conduct themselves accordingly.
2.All spectators and Officers of the Court not engaged in the business of the Court must be seated in the Courtroom or Courtroom lobby and not congregate in the hallways adjacent to the Judges' chambers, the entrance to the Judges' chambers, the Judges' entrance into the Courtroom, nor in the Judges' chambers proper.
3.Attorneys are required to complete an appearance form, provided by the Court, and file the same with the Case Manager in attendance in the courtroom prior to the opening of court. Attorneys are not to approach the bench and engage the Case Manager in conversation while court is in session and are not permitted to approach the bench or the Case Manager during the opening of court and during the Judge's opening remarks.
4.Court is called into session and the session is terminated by the Case Manager in attendance in the courtroom. At the instant that court is called into session and the gavel has been sounded, all talking and moving about in the courtroom will stop and attention will focus on the Judge's opening remarks.
5.Bailiffs present in the courtroom will maintain order and be alert to security problems that may arise during sessions of court.
6.Children under age six (6) are not permitted in the courtrooms.
7.All persons doing business with the court must be properly attired in business or casual clothes that present a respectful, dignified appearance before the Court.
7A.Police officers must be in proper uniform appropriate to their requirements. Street clothes may be worn when appearing off-duty.
7B.Attorneys must be dressed in business attire; men must wear jackets and ties.
8.No eating, drinking or smoking shall be permitted in the courtroom during sessions of court. |
