City Celebrating National Dollar Wise Week
Mayor Otis Johnson has announced a week full of local activities Sept. 24-29 intended to promote financial responsibility as part of National Dollar Wise Week: Financial Education for America. The theme of this year’s campaign is “
Saving for Children and Families.”
Mayor Johnson and Savannah’s local Dollar Wise Week community coalition will work with local banks to encourage families to help their children open savings accounts and learn at an early age the importance of saving money and making wise financial choices. "Unbanked" parents, too, will be assisted in opening savings accounts.
"Savings are an important building block for the foundation of the American Dream," Mayor Johnson said. "They are essential to making possible many hopes and dreams -- owning a home, educating our children, and having stable families.”
The U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Council for the New American City established the National Dollar Wise Campaign to address financial literacy. The Council is using the Dollar Wise Campaign to educate citizens on personal and household finances.
Mayor Johnson and the Savannah Dollar Wise Week Committee invite citizens to be active in a variety of activities offered through out the week.
